Kagurabachi Anime Confirmed: World Tour Premiere, Release Schedule, and Where to Read the Manga

By ZealPlane Editorial Desk | Senior Pop Culture & Manga Analyst | ZealPlane Chronicles

Everyone remembers the day Chapter 1 of Kagurabachi dropped back in late 2023. Twitter was drowning in ridiculous ironic memes proclaiming it the greatest piece of fiction ever written before anyone had even read panel two. Most manga that get saddled with that kind of internet gag die within twenty chapters and get quietly canceled in the back of Jump.

Kagurabachi did the exact opposite. Takeru Hokazono basically put his head down, drew Chihiro slicing through sorcerers in dead silence with spirit goldfish swirling around his katana, gave us the Sojo fight, and turned the joke into Shueisha’s biggest new cash cow.

Now the anime is finally real, and the staff list is genuinely surprising. It isn't going to Mappa or Ufotable like everyone guessed. A brand-new outfit called Studio Cypic is handling it, but the big news is who’s in the director's chair: Tetsuya Takeuchi.

If you obsess over action animation, that name should make you sit up. Takeuchi almost never directs entire TV series; he’s the reclusive sakuga legend who steps into productions like Sword Art Online or Yozakura Quartet just to animate insane, physical, bone-crunching sword fights with ridiculous weight behind every slash. Giving him a manga where fights are won on quick-draw footwork and zero wasted motion is about as good a match as you could ask for.

The Theatrical World Tour & The Kabukiza Finale

They aren't just dumping a YouTube trailer and waiting for television broadcast. Shueisha is taking early preview cuts directly to international conventions throughout late 2026, leading up to a theatrical premiere in Tokyo:

Anime Festival Asia (AFA) Singapore (November 29, 2026): Suntec Convention Centre hosts a 20-minute Episode 1 preview cut, alongside a live Q&A with Chihiro’s voice actor Taihi Kimura and animation producer Mizoguchi KAN.
Seoul Special Showcase (December 6, 2026): Advance 20-minute screening at CGV Yongsan in South Korea with Kimura and producer Mizoguchi.
CCXP Brazil (December 2026): South American showcase and first regional trailer reveal.
The Grand Finale in Tokyo (March 25, 2027): The uncut world premiere of both Episode 1 and Episode 2 back-to-back at Tokyo’s historic Kabukiza Theatre, paired with nationwide movie theater live viewings across Japan.

Premiering both Episode 1 and Episode 2 together is the smartest thing they could have done. If you only show Episode 1, people get a quiet father-son prologue about making swords. Episode 2 is where the Hishaku syndicate busts through the door, slaughters Kunishige, steals the Enchanted Blades, and turns Chihiro into a bloodthirsty revenge machine. Showing them back-to-back means nobody leaves the theater thinking this is a calm slice-of-life anime.

Core Production & Confirmed Voice Cast

Animation Studio: Studio Cypic (CyberAgent / Shochiku)
Director: Tetsuya Takeuchi (Sword Art Online, Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta)
Character Design: Keigo Sasaki (Blue Exorcist, ERASED, The Seven Deadly Sins)
Global Streaming: Crunchyroll (Worldwide simulcast starting April 2027)

Confirmed Voice Cast

Chihiro Rokuhira: Taihi Kimura (a grounded, understated performance that avoids the typical screaming shonen lead).
Kunishige Rokuhira: Tomokazu Seki (Gilgamesh in Fate/stay night, Sanemi in Demon Slayer).
Togo Shiba: Katsuyuki Konishi (Tengen Uzui in Demon Slayer, Kamina in Gurren Lagann).

What Arc Will Season 1 Cover?

Based on standard 24-episode pacing, Season 1 is set to adapt the two foundational arcs:

The Introduction & Sojo Arc (Chapters 1–17): Chihiro tracking down the first stolen Enchanted Blade and his brutal showdown against Sojo Genichi, wielder of Cloud Gouger (Kuregumo).
The Rakuzaichi Underground Auction Arc (Chapters 18–45): The multi-faction siege inside the Sazanami Clan's floating fortress to reclaim the ancestral master blade Shinuchi. This arc is what firmly cemented the series as elite dark fantasy.

Where to Read the Manga Right Now

If you don't want to wait until April 2027 to see where the story goes:

MangaPlus (by Shueisha): The first three and latest three chapters are free in your browser. On the MangaPlus mobile app, every single chapter is available to read once for free.
Viz Media / Shonen Jump App: A $2.99/month digital subscription unlocks the complete archive from Chapter 1 through the current weekly chapter.
Physical Volumes: Shueisha and Viz Media have published physical tankōbon paperbacks internationally, with physical volume prints rolling out across major bookstore chains.

The Verdict

With Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia having completed their manga runs, Weekly Shonen Jump is undergoing a massive generational shift. Kagurabachi is currently carrying the banner for modern dark fantasy, and Shueisha clearly views this anime as their next flagship global export.

If Studio Cypic can capture even half of the raw, cinematic panel-silence that made the manga’s fights legendary, April 2027 could deliver one of the most explosive action anime debuts of the decade.
