Karma

"A punishment is something that causes suffering. But if the guilty themselves begin to desire it, then it is no longer a punishment—it becomes a gift." – Elder (Karma)

For the past few days, I wasn’t active on social media—I took a small break. During this time, I was reminded of the very first comic I ever created, the one that truly introduced me to the world of comics. Its name was “Karma”, which I made back in 2020 for the Tezuka Manga Contest.

Looking at the art now, you can probably guess that I lost miserably. But still, a first creation always remains closest to one’s heart.

A glimpse of the story:

It’s about a boy who once committed such a grave crime in the past that a punishment worse than death awaited him on a destined day.

The only way to escape that punishment was—if he chose death himself.

But the problem was, he was so powerful that even finding death for himself wasn’t easy.

And that’s where his struggle begins—putting himself in situations where perhaps death might finally embrace him. But fate plays its own strange game, and that’s why the story came to be called “Karma.”

The story revolves around three people:

• one who desperately wants to die,
• one who simply cannot die no matter what, and
• one who wishes to end everything at any cost.

Well, I’ll stop here assuming that you might actually want to read this comic, so I won’t reveal more.

This was a completely solo project, something I initially made just for myself, but later submitted to the contest. The entire 42-page comic cost me only 57 rupees to make. So, the quality may not be what you’d expect—and for that, I sincerely apologize. But if you’d still like to read it, do let me know, and I’ll make it available.
